Sculptures by Roy Hinz

Biography

The natural world has always been part of this Artist's story and it is the primary focus of his work, expressed in sculptures of surprising detail, realism and power. The Canadian Wilderness comes to life in the original sculptures by Roy Hinz - bears hunt, cougars stalk, trout leap, and orcas emerge from the spray as images captured in stone.

Roy was born in the interior of British Columbia, raised in northern Alberta and now works from his studio on an acreage in Spruce Grove, Alberta.  He's always been an outdoorsman with a fascination for nature and an observant eye, which led him quite naturally to his passion.  "I had experimented with other art medium's but it wasn't until I drew a file across a piece of raw stone that I knew I'd found it."  Given his history, Roy's choice of wildlife as his main subject-matter is not surprising.

What started out as a part time hobby in his garage in 2000, soon became a full time passion.  Roy is primarily self-taught, and his sculptures range in size from a few pounds to life-sized pieces weighing hundreds of pounds.

His work can be found in private and corporate collections in Canada, United States, Germany, Australia, China, Saudi Arabia and other countries throughout the world.
